This gallery is reflective of the Buddhist art from all over the subcontinent and even beyond. Buddhist images from Gandhara, Mathura, Sarnath, Nagarjunakonda, Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh and even distant places like Java and Cambodia stand for this diversity. The most important exhibits of this gallery, for which it is rendered no less than a temple, are the holy relics of the Buddha enshrined in a golden Thai pavilion. According to the Buddhist traditions, in the centres following the sponsorship of Asoka, the great Mauryan emperor, the Buddhist philosophy evolved into at least 18 schools. Theravada is one of them and still exists across Southeast Asia.
