More than 3,000 students experienced one of life's proudest moments when they receive their degrees at Carnegie Mellon University's 117th Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 18 on the Pittsburgh campus. (Ceremony starts at 1:07:00).

This was the first CMU Commencement Ceremony presided over by CMU's 9th president Dr. Subra Suresh (1:19:35).

Student speaker Bryan Lewis (E'13 '14) inspired the audience with his speech about helping others reach their potential (1:32:10).

CMU alumnus and trustee Jeffrey Housenbold, president and CEO of Shutterfly Inc., gave the keynote address (1:50:55). An Andrew Carnegie Presidential Scholar, Housenbold earned his bachelor's degree in economics and business administration from CMU in 1991. He rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most successful new-media entrepreneurs in the world with a successful track record of building profitable, online consumer brands by artfully combining commerce and community.

Honorary degrees were given to three exemplary leaders whose life and work serve as an inspiration for CMU students, faculty and staff:

John Wells, a 1979 graduate of CMU's School of Drama and one of the most influential and successful producer-directors in American film and television, received a Doctor of Fine Arts degree.

Manfred Honeck, internationally renowned music director for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, received a Doctor of Fine Arts degree.

Telle Whitney, president and CEO of the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology received a Doctor of Science and Technology degree.
